Desiree Maira, mezzo-soprano
R“ich voiced” mezzo-soprano Desiree Maira has quickly become one of the most sought-after instructors in the United States. In 2018, Ms. Maira completed teacher training and certification under Justin Stoney of New York Vocal Coaching. Most recently, she appeared as Francesca (u/s) with Media Theatre’s production of The Bridges of Madison County, was a featured soloist in the DuPont Clifford Jazz Festival, enjoyed collaborating with renowned pianist Doug Montgomery and the Santa Fe Chorale in Santa Fe, NM. Operas performed include the title roles in Carmen and Serse, Madame in Cendrillon, Second and Third Lady in Die Zauberflote, Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte, Isabella in L’Italiana in Algeri. Other musical stage credits include Alma Hix in The Music Man, Lucy in You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, Joanne in Godspell and Florinda in Into the Woods. Desiree Maira holds a Master of Music degree from The Boston Conservatory and a Bachelor of Music degree from Stetson University. She held voice faculty positions at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee, University of New Mexico, Rider University and University of the Arts. A certified mental health technician through the National Association of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapists, she attended Southwestern College and New Earth Institute as a Masters in Counseling candidate, specializing in trauma, grief and renewal. Ms. Maira was a proud Mentor with ArtSmart, Michael Fabiano’s organization offering free voice lessons to underserved communities. She now resides in South Florida, running The Song-Heart Connection and working closely with Young Singers of the Palm Beaches Baxter Scholarship recipients. Desiree enjoys teaching singers on Broadway, in national tours, voice majors in high school and college, and any singer wishing to improve their relationship to their voice.
