Andrea Saposnik, mezzo-soprano
Mezzo-soprano Andrea Saposnik has 25 years of experience teaching voice to children, teens, and adults. She has studied vocal anatomy and physiology intensively, participating in the New York Singing Teachers' Association's Professional Development Program for distinguished voice professionals.She has taught at the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Italy; Greenwich House Music School, New York City, and at the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY; she currently maintains a private voice studio in Hastings-on-Hudson, NYand also has a large online studio. She holds a Doctorate in Voice from CUNY Graduate Center, a Master’s in Voice from Yale University, a Bachelor’s in Voice from Oberlin Conservatory, and a Bachelor’s in English from Oberlin College. She also holds certificates in Somatic Voicework™ and from Justin Stoney’s Voice Teacher Training Program. Her doctoral dissertation, Women in the Spotlight: Divas in Nineteenth-Century New York was published in 2011. She is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, New York Singing Teachers’ Association, The Voice Foundation, and the American Guild of Musical Artists. Andrea is also a certified yoga instructor.
As a performer, Andrea has performed extensively in opera, oratorio, musica theater, and recital. Her recent performances include Haydn’s Missa in tempore belli, Haydn’s Theresienmesse,andthe role of Micah in Handel’s Samson, all with the Putnam Chorale and Respighi’s Il Tramonto in Arcidosso, Italy. She is a frequent soloist with the Long Island Choral Society, where she was Artist-in-Residence, andwhere she performed Bach’s Magnificat and Mass in B Minor, the Requiems of Duruflé and Verdi, Copland's In the Beginning, Handel's Messiah, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Vivaldi’s Gloria, and world premieres of works by Meredith Baker and James Cowdery. She was a fellow at the Ravinia Festival and The Bach Aria Festival, and has been a frequent collaborator with members of the Bach Aria Group. Andrea has also performed with the New York City Opera educational outreach department. Her recordings include Handel’s Messiah with Trinity Choir and Orchestra on Naxos and Elliot Goldenthal's Juan Darien on Sony.
