Carmen Lemoine, flute
Dr. Carmen Lemoine is assistant professor of flute at Wichita State University (WSU) and principal flute of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra in Wichita, Kansas. She is also a member of the Santa Rosa Symphony and has performed as guest principal flute with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra in New Zealand. Prior to WSU, Lemoine served as chamber music faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Previous orchestral experience includes positions with Marin Symphony and Santa Cruz Symphony, and performances with the Louisville Orchestra, Louisiana Philharmonic, New Hampshire Music Festival, Opera Parallèle, and the Spoleto USA Festival Orchestra.
Equally at home in small ensembles of contrasting styles, Carmen is flutist with the Lieurance Woodwind Quintet and performs with the WSU Latin jazz ensemble Banda Hispanica. She also collaborates with guitarist Mark Simons, founder of the San Francisco Guitar Quartet. She founded the Bay Area wind sextet Frequency 49 and is a former member of the hip-hop/classical fusion group Ensemble Mik Nawooj.
Carmen travels frequently to teach and to perform as a soloist. She has been the featured artist for the Montana Flute Association, the University of Nevada-Reno Flute Day, and the University of Kansas Flute Day. Dr. Lemoine has also visited the Universities of Memphis, Louisville, Akron, Oklahoma, and Washington, among others, to present masterclasses. She has appeared as a presenter at the National Flute Association’s annual conventions, the Mid-South Flute Festival, and the Mid-Atlantic Flute Fair, and has adjudicated for the Texas Flute Festival, Oklahoma Flute Fair, San Diego Flute Guild and the National Flute Association.
Lemoine earned degrees in flute performance from the Eastman School of Music (BM and DMA), where she studied with celebrated artist and teacher Bonita Boyd, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (MM), studying with San Francisco Symphony principal flute Timothy Day.
