
Artist Faculty Performance Spotlight
Gözde Çakır Ramsey, flute
Dr. Gözde Çakır Ramsey, a native of Turkey, is the Assistant Professor of Flute at Tennessee Tech University, the principal flutist of the Bryan Symphony Orchestra, and a flutist with the Cumberland Quintet. Before joining Tennessee Tech, she served as second flutist with the Topeka Symphony Orchestra and held teaching positions at Missouri Western State University and Benedictine College.
Dr. Çakır Ramsey has performed internationally in Turkey, the United States, France, Switzerland, and Kosovo. Notable appearances include performances at Carnegie Hall with the New Manhattan Sinfonietta, as well as with the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra, Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, and Appalachian Ballet. She has been featured at prestigious events such as the National Flute Association Convention, the Florida Flute Association Convention, Opus Erasmus III: Mélodie et Poésie dans la Musique Contemporaine in Paris, the International Istanbul Pera Music Festival, the Oh My Ears Festival, the Scheherazade Music Festival, and the International Kosovo Music Festival (Zgijime Art).
Her achievements in competition include second prize at the Coltman Chamber Music Competition, second prize in the Izmir International Flute Competition, and first place in the Yamaha Scholarship Award. She also received an honorable mention at the Nixon Woodwind Competition and won the concerto competition at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. Dr. Çakır Ramsey has performed in masterclasses for renowned flutists such as Emmanuel Pahud, principal flutist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, and has worked with esteemed musicians including James Galway, Raffaele Trevisani, Leone Buyse, and Andrea Oliva.
Beyond her performances, Dr. Çakır Ramsey is actively involved in academic and artistic programming for national conferences across the United States. In 2024, she led her students in performances at the Florida Flute Association Convention in Orlando and the National Flute Association Convention in San Antonio, showcasing the Tennessee Tech Flute Choir. She is also deeply passionate about researching Turkish music and collaborates with contemporary composers to expand the flute repertoire.
Dr. Çakır Ramsey earned her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Flute Performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory, her Master of Music from Central Michigan University, and her undergraduate degree from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University–Istanbul State Conservatory.
