Lorenzo Mazzamuto, violin
Born in Italy, Lorenzo Mazzamuto graduated in 2005 from the Vincenzo Bellini Musical Institute of Catania with the highest scores and honors as a student of Maestro Vito Imperato. In June 2013 he graduated from the Moscow State Conservatory "P. |. Tchaikovsky" with the highest scores in the class of the Russian “ Artist of the People” Sergey Girshenko. He has played in White Hall, Conference Hall, Rachmaninov Hall, Small Hall and Big Hall of the Moscow “P.l. Tchaikovsky” Conservatory. In 2020 Lorenzo got his second Master's degree in String Pedagogy in the studio of Maestro E. Schmieder at Temple University, Philadelphia (Pennsylvania).
He had his solo debut with an orchestra at the age of 9 performing a Vivaldi Concerto. The violinist has taken part in over 30 national and international musical competitions, obtaining in all, either first prize or absolute first prize.
International competitions include: "Bernardo Santaniello" (Salerno), "Rovere D'Oro" (Imperia), "Vincenzo Scaramuzza" (Cosenza), "Aretusae” (Syracuse), "Valle del Barocco” (Ragusa), “Mario Fillioley” Siracusa finalist at the TIM International Music Tournament (Roma), and 3rd prize at the “Andrea Postacchini" (Ascoli Piceno).
National competitions include: "A.M.A. Calabria" (Cosenza), "Luca Campochiaro" (Catania), "Vanna Spadafora” (Messina), and "Benedetto Albanese" (Palermo) where he was awarded absolute first prize and the bursary in all categories and divisions, and it also is noteworthy one of the four finalists at the All-Italian Conservatory Competition in Rome. In December 2018 Lorenzo won the string section for “Concerto Competition" at Temple University, and most recently in April 2019, was awarded first prize for the adult division and was a recipient of all the special prizes at the International "Global Music Partnership Competition" (New Jersey).
Lorenzo was also winner of the bursary assigned to the best violinist of the Senior Specialization Course, held by Maestro Corrado Romano in Sermaneta. In 2000, he was awarded first place, with special mention of merit, in the prestigious "Vittorio Veneto Violin Season.” patronized by the President of the Italian Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi and in the early 2000s he further distinguished himself (at the age of 14) by passing with special merit the admission audition for the Senior Specialization Course of the Walter Stauffer Academy of Music. This honor was normally only available to students who were already possessing a performance degree (at that time Lorenzo was still working on his Bachelor), but violinists who were deemed by the great violinist Maestro Salvatore Accardo to possess exceptional talent could be admitted, regardless of qualifications held.
Lorenzo has played for some of the most important theatres and concert associations in Italy (V. Bellini Theater, Sicily), Europe (Guarneri Association, Belgrade), Russia (Moscow Conservatory, Big hall) and U.S.A (Carnegie hall). He has performed as a soloist with the Ploesti Symphony Orchestra, the Kiev's Camerata, the Russian Chamber Orchestra, Teatro Massimo Vincenzo Bellini, Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Vox Amadeus and others. Lorenzo's orchestral experience includes: "Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra" Pittsburgh, "Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia” Philadelphia, "Opera Philadelphia” Philadelphia, "| Palpiti" chamber orchestra Los Angeles, “V. Bellini’ Teatro Massimo Catania, “G. Garibaldi” Teatro Politeama Palermo, “Vox Amadeus” Philadelphia, “Temple University Symphony Orchestra" Philadelphia, "Moscow State Conservatory Symphony Orchestra" Moscow. In February 2023 won the audition as concertmaster of Teatro Massimo Vincenzo Bellini in Catania where he currently serves. Since October 2004, he has been the first violinist with the 20th/contemporary music group "L'offerta Musicale Ensemble”, under the guidance of Riccardo Insolia.
Lorenzo and his brother Alessandro (pianist) have performed all over the world as the celebrated duo “Duo Mazzamuto”, since childhood. The exceptional talent of Lorenzo Mazzamuto has on many occasions been encouraged by famous international musicians, such as Igor Oistrach, Glenn Dicterow, Michail Kugel, Leslie Howard, Rocco Filippini, Raffaele Vinci, Katia Ricciarelli, Giuliano Camignola, Franco Petracchi,Donald Weilerstein, Edoardo Hubert, Bruno Canino, Vladimir Skanavi, Irina Bochkova, Alexander Rudin. He recorded world premieres under the label “BAM records”.
