Mikhail Volchok, piano

Mikhail Volchok studied at prestigious schools in Russia, including the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory under Professor Yakov Zak and the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory in St. Petersburg under Professor Pavel Serebria-kov, where he earned his BM, MM, and DMA by the age of 25.

In 1976, he won the gold medal at the 5th Bach International Competition in Leipzig. By that time, he had already won prizes at the Pan Soviet and Russian contests.

After completing his studies, Mikhail Volchok dedicated his career to both per-forming and teaching. From 1975 to 1979, he taught at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg. Since 1990, he has been teaching at the Central Music School of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. His talent as a pianist and educator took him beyond Moscow, where he trained students of the highest caliber. He has been invited to participate in music seminars in Italy, Croatia, and South Korea and to share his expertise through masterclasses in Germany, Switzerland, France, and the United States. Mikhail Volchok served as a visiting professor at Croatia's Music Academy "Ino Mirkovich."

Mikhail Volchok toured with renowned conductors, including M. Jansons, A. Las-arev, A. Jansons, E. Serov, and others. He performs solo and duo recitals (with Larissa Dedova) in Europe, the United States, and Asia. In 1994, Mikhail Volchok was honored as "The Honored Artist of Russia."

In 1996, the Piano Duo “Dedova-Volchok” won the International "Pro Piano" Competition in New York.

Mr. Volchok’s recording credits include releases for the Melodia label, as well as ConClaRec, Morning Storm, and Centaur labels.

Mikhail Volchok has composed numerous works, including a Piano Concerto, Capriccio for 15 instruments, Dialogues for two pianos, as well as a String Quar-tet and a French Horn Sextet. His "Three Poems of Anna Akhmatova" for sopra-no, flute, and piano premiered in Basel, Switzerland, in July 2016.

Since 1997, Mr. Volchok has been a member of the Piano Faculty at the Univer-sity of Maryland, College Park, and serves as a master teacher at the Levine School of Music in Washington, DC.
