Robyn Jones, clarinet
Robyn Jones is Assistant Professor of Clarinet at the University of Memphis, Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music. Since arriving in Memphis in the fall of 2012, she has performed with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, the Memphis Woodwind Quintet, and as principal clarinet with the Jackson Symphony Orchestra.
She held the position of principal clarinet with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in New Orleans from 2004-2012, during which time she was a featured soloist with Debussy's Premier Rhapsody, of which the Times Picayune said “Strong soloists make this orchestra a joy to hear—and few are stronger than the group’s principal clarinet, Robyn Jones…she filled the church’s lofty sanctuary with a full-bodied sound akin to that of an operatic singer, projecting breathy whispers, unfurling legato phrases and accelerating into fluttery birdsong.”
In addition to her position in the LPO, Ms. Jones taught at Tulane University and the University of New Orleans. Prior to assuming her position in New Orleans, she performed with many orchestras, including the Minnesota Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. She is active in the International Clarinet Association, and performed at the ClarinetFest in Assisi, Italy, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
