Using a scholarly transcription of a movement from a J. S. Bach cello Suite, this masterclass/lecture will introduce violinists to the baroque solo string "language" of JSB as well as introducing the art of period appropriate ornamentation. Discussion and examples will include overall musical approach, phrasing and sequences, bowings and bow technique, sound color development, fingering choices, inflection, etc. Who is welcome to play, observe, discuss, etc.? The information presented will be applicable and very beneficial to intermediate and advanced violinists and violists, young professionals, and teachers. -
